A dash cam, also known as a drive recorder, is an in-car camera that automatically records video while you’re driving. Once the vehicle is turned on, the camera begins recording and stores footage onto a memory card. This footage can be used to help provide clarity and peace of mind in the event of an incident.
AutoVue dash cams are designed to work automatically. Recording starts when the vehicle is turned on and stops when the vehicle is turned off, so there’s no need to press any buttons.
As a helpful tip, the dash cam will provide an audible prompt such as “start recording” when it powers on. We recommend keeping the volume switched on so you can hear this confirmation.
All AutoVue dash cams also support Parking Mode and are professionally installed, allowing monitoring to continue when the vehicle is parked.
Parking Mode comes standard on AutoVue dash cams, as each drive recorder is professionally hard-wired to the vehicle. This allows the camera to continue monitoring the vehicle even when the engine is turned off.
AutoVue dash cams offer two Parking Mode options. The default setting is time-lapse recording, which provides continuous coverage while maximising recording time and minimising battery usage. Customers may also select motion detection, where recording occurs only when movement or an impact is detected.
Because Parking Mode runs while the vehicle is off, the dash cam draws power from the vehicle’s 12V system.
During normal driving, a dash cam will not affect your vehicle’s battery. When the vehicle is parked and Parking Mode is running, the dash cam draws power from the vehicle’s 12V system.
AutoVue dash cams include built-in voltage protection with a fixed low-voltage cut-off set at 12V. Once this threshold is reached, the system will shut down to help prevent further battery discharge.
For customers wanting extended Parking Mode coverage, a dedicated dash cam battery pack can be added.
Recording time depends on camera resolution, frame rate, and memory card size. AutoVue dash cams use loop recording, meaning once the memory card is full, the oldest footage is automatically overwritten.
As a general guide, most AutoVue dash cams can provide up to approximately 6 hours of continuous driving footage.
AutoVue dash cams feature a built-in G-sensor that detects sudden impacts or sharp movements. When triggered, the relevant video file is automatically locked so it cannot be overwritten by loop recording.
This helps ensure important footage is preserved in the event of an accident or incident.
No. AutoVue dash cams are designed to operate automatically in the background. Once installed, the camera will start recording when the vehicle is turned on and switch to Parking Mode when the vehicle is turned off.
As a simple tip, all customers need to do is listen for the“start recording” audio prompt when starting the car. Other than occasional memory card maintenance, no daily interaction is required.
Footage can be accessed using the mobile app specific to your dash cam model, or by removing the memory card and inserting it into a computer.

To keep the dash cam operating reliably, we recommend formatting the memory card every three months. Regular formatting helps maintain optimal recording performance and reduces the risk of file errors.
Some models may provide a reminder, while others do not. Even without a reminder, routine formatting every three months is recommended.

AutoVue dash cams are backed by a limited warranty, with coverage periods varying by model. Depending on the product model, warranty terms range from 5 years to 10 years.

Common Question About Parking Mode
Time-lapse is the default and recommended setting for balanced coverage and battery efficiency. Motion detection can be selected if preferred.
Parking mode can provide protection for up to 24 hours. This depends on battery condition, environment and Parking Mode type. Recording stops once the 12V cut-off is reached.
This usually indicates the battery reached the fixed 12V cut-off. This is normal and means the system is protecting the vehicle battery.
A dedicated dash cam battery pack can be added to significantly extend Parking Mode operation.
About Memory Cards
Your footage is stored on a high-speed memory card inside the camera. Avoid purchasing memory cards online.
